Here’s How You Can Help

Caroline here again, Jan-Maree has compiled the list below of different ways that you can help while she is getting back on her feet and re-establishing a base for Aussie Hero Quilts.  It is so lovely that so many of you have put your hands up to lend a hand.  The quilting and defense force communities are fabulous, and it has been lovely to see how we have all surrounded her with the love she deserves.

How To Help.

Firstly, please do not send things direct to Jan-Maree as she needs to get storage set up. She’s not sure how much room she will have in her temporary head quarters so needs to think strategically about what we collect.

Non-sewers

Spotlight vouchers – to buy flag panels, all over flag fabric and poppy fabric

Australia post vouchers… JM needs to be able to buy 3 and 5 kg satchels to send quilts off to be posted as well as stamps.

Vouchers can be sent to

Aussie Hero Quilts
PO Box 248
Cherrybrook NSW 2126

Donations to our bank account so that we can get more batting, backing fabrics, cord for laundry bags…. Please PM for the account details

Collect new or gently used tea towels (Aussie themes or funny ones) but please wait until asked to send them.

Sewers

Fabric donations I know lots of you want to send fabric to build up our stash again and storage for Jan-Maree will be an issue. The lovely people from Blessington Pty Ltd (Singer, Husqvarna/Viking, Pfaff, Handi Quilter and Accuquilt) have kindly donated space at their Seven Hills Office to store any fabric donations you wish to send to Aussie Hero’s.
They will store it for us until we are in a position to have it sorted and moved to the new HQ in time. Please understand if we don’t respond to all the parcels that arrive as the work load involved in re-establishing Aussie Hero’s is huge and this is something that will take time.
At the moment we are only in a position to accept Fat Quarters and Width of Fabric. We would prefer not to receive UFO’s, Orphan Blocks or Scraps.

Please send fabric donations to

Aussie Hero Quilts Donations
Unit 17, 167 Prospect Hwy
Seven Hills  NSW  2147

You could also do any of the following

BLOCKS

If you only want to make blocks.. Please make our star blocks in the following themes…Star Tutorial

Aussie (good for everyone but especially Wounded Warrior Quilts)

Or footy colours

Red/white
Blue/white
Blue/yellow
Maroon/gold
Teal/black
Orange/yellow and black
Purple/gold
Brown/gold

That does not cover all teams but we can add colours when quilts are constructed to make them suit a specific team.

QUILTS

If you want to make a whole quilt then go for it …Quilt Specifications Here
We have loads of people waiting and if we wait until Jan-Maree reconstructs the request list then it will take too long to get quilts made and we don’t have time to allocate requests.  This is what JM wants to keep it simple for the moment.

We have HMAS Perth at sea so nautical quilts…. You can add BZ, to the ship’s name, their motto is Flight and Flourish. Their side number is 157.

Make quilts in the following footy colours – these are the most commonly requested.  I would hate you to make a quilt and have to wait to send it off because we do not have a request for a specific team.

Red/white
Blue/white
Blue/yellow
Maroon/gold

Make “random” blokey or gender neutral quilts.  Blokes like bright and colourful as well as blues and browns.

If you are happy to appliqué add southern crosses, Roos, other Aussie icons.    Add Aussie sayings. Don’t add footy logos/ Rising Suns or RAAF crests as that restricts who they can be allocated to.

Please don’t make ultra simple quilts with one piece of fabric on the front.  We have lots of volunteers so we can take a bit more time and make these pieced quilts.

LAUNDRY BAGS

Make bags in any of the above themes, colours….. Put patches on them or wait till I give you a name to add initials.   Gather up tea towels to make them out of.

Once you have made your Quilt/blocks/ laundry bags please HOLD them til JM asks you to post them.  In a couple of weeks she should be back on deck and ready to collect the mail regularly etc so people will be able to post blocks direct to her.

In three or four weeks Jan -Maree will start to put the request list together again and will start allocating names for you to send your quilts/bags to directly.

A quick note from Jan-Maree

“I hope to be back to ops normal soon….. At least as far as AHQ is concerned.

Big, big BZ and thanks to Clarissa who has stepped into the breach to coordinate the Government House Exhibition and the Sydney Craft and Quilt Fair.  We don’t have our brochures, most of our patches for sale or photo books any more but we will make do and we will get by.

Massive thanks to those who will be manning to booth at the Craft and Quilt Fair, especially Gail and other who will be helping to set the booth up.  I was supposed to be there every day but now just for the Sunday.

Huge thanks to those who are stepping up to staff the exhibition at Government House in my stead.  I plan to be there on Sunday 3 July.  Hope you will come by and say hello.

Thank you all for your kindness. Patience, support, loyalty and love.  I can’t thank you all enough.”

Happy Stitching
Cheers

I love these suggestions and the 'simple' quilts is what Aussie Heros started as. A quilt to let the troops know they are cared for.

    Great work Caroline & JM.

Simple is good but we do need to put much love and care into our quilts. They do deserve our best efforts :o)
