Dear Toni F,

Thank you so much for my Aussie Hero Laundry Bag.I have seen many during my time in service and this is my first one.

My Journey in the ADF was 17 years. I was medically discharged for physical and mental issues.

So the Invictus journey has been amazing.

Thank you so much for my special bag. It was used to bring my Medals home.

G’day Toni D!

Thank You so much for the laundry bag, I can’t express how much I love it! For someone who has never heard of Bob Ross, you’ve nailed it! I love the attention to detail, from the little duff tag for the pull cord to the wonderful stitching and design.

I haven’t had the chance to try it out on the ship just yet, but once we’re out at sea again I’ll be sure to send you a picture of me on the ship putting the laundry bag to good use. I’ll admit, I’ve had the same problem as your son when it comes to laundry bags, so it’s so good to hear you decided to make a difference and I’m sure the other 60 people you’ve made bags for so far are as appreciative as I am! No one makes high quality laundry bags it seems, and nothing can compare with something handmade and made with love.

A bit about me, I’m an Army Officer myself and graduated ADFA in 2020 and RMC in 2021 so I can empathise with what your son is going through! All my mates who are “muddies” (The ADFA term for civil engineers) are having awesome careers with plenty of trips overseas supporting local communities, or secondments to civilian companies. They all love their job, and I hope your son finds the same joy when he graduates RMC!

Reading the part about your dog put a smile on my face, it sounds like she’s lucky to have found such a lovely home where she’s looked after and can live her labrador life to the fullest! The downside of always posting around is I haven’t had the chance to adopt a dog myself, so it’s always great to live vicariously through other people’s stories of their pets.

I wish you and your family all the best, and I realise now the “Aussie Heroes” isnt just talking about the service men and women who receive them, it’s the heroes who find the time to make the laundry bags and quilts to make our lives that little bit better and brighter!

Kind Regards,

***

Hello Bridget R,

I would like to say a big thank you for my laundry bag that has arrived safe and sound. I absolutely love it and the pop off colour it added to my room and I will most definitely be able to easily find my laundry.

I have a feeling my two little nieces will be trying to steal this one off of me once I’m back in Australia. 🙂

I myself was 22 years old before I joined the Army and found it was where I felt I fit in, I went through 12 different jobs before this. I think I caused my parents a lot of stress during this time. I myself have recently got myself posted to Adelaide to be closer to my family who live in country South Australia and am grateful for the opportunity to see them frequently as I use to seem them once a year.

We appreciate the work you do for Aussie Hero Quilts and the smiles it bring to us when we get your beautiful creations in the mail.

Also thank you for the lollies!

I hope your family is well and I wish you all the best.

Kind Regards,

Hi Jan-Maree and the wonderful Aussie Hero Quilts Team,

The three quilts for N, his Dad and grandfather arrived here on Monday – they are beautiful. N happened to be in Melbourne; he and his father were planning to visit N’s grandfather in hospital on Tuesday so the team here, in Adelaide, arranged a video call to the hospital room (without the three knowing why) and made a virtual presentation of all three quilts – the recipients were all very moved and appreciative of your gifts.

N will be here next week and will collect the quilts from me.

From the very bottom of my heart, thank you. You are all amazingly generous, bringing care and light to terrible situations.

(N’s dad and grandfather received Because We Care quilts, while N received a quilt made by Philomena H)

Good evening Pennie T,

I had the pleasure of receiving your laundry bag. You have done an excellent job, and I am very grateful to have received something you have put such care into.

My mum is very involved in stitching, and she was impressed with the work you have done. Funnily enough, there are many camels where we are, so it is very appropriate!

I appreciate you taking the time to find the right parachuting badge. Very cool!

I hope you are doing well back in Australia. And we appreciate everything you and Aussie Hero Quilts do for those deployed overseas.

All the best.

Good Morning Lois S,

Firstly thank you so much for the time and effort you have put into this beautiful laundry bag. I can’t express enough how the generosity and of such an item makes me and the crew as a whole feel.

I am beyond thankful for the result of this laundry bag and can assure you it’ll follow me for the rest of my career. The hot wheels liner was a great touch of fun to an already amazing piece so again thank you.

I have a few friends that live in the Blue Mountains which I met whilst being in training. My fiancé is also an avid dog lover as am I but she has made a career out of it conducting training and dog walking. While she resides in Melbourne and I am stuck in Darwin we do our best to stay close although the distance can make it difficult at times. I luckily have my next posting in Melbourne next year which will allow us hopefully to buy a house and start settling in ourselves

That’s a little about myself but I would be more than welcome to hearing from you again if you find the time.

That being said again thank you for not only your support but for your letter.

I hope this email finds you well and that you have a wonderful weekend.

Kindest regards,

 Good evening Ann,

It was a pleasure to receive your quilt. You have done such a great job putting it together. My mum also does a lot of quilting, and she was impressed when I sent her a photo.

It sounds like your family is doing very well. My sister is also studying a medical degree to be a Doctor in the Air Force. She didn’t do a Gap Year, but managed to get a paid scholarship after a year of doing medical research. She is having a great time with the Royal Flying Doctors to get experience.

I have done a lot of study into the conflict in Rabaul and Bougainville. Your Dad must have been through a lot, and I know Hero Quilts have helped some very good soldiers get through some tough times. I know at least two who I have had under my command that Hero Quilts has helped.

I hope you are doing well in Australia. And we appreciate everything you and the Hero Quilts do.

Thanks again. And all the best.

This quilt was presented recently and I am told “He was absolutely blown away. Presented it to him in front of his family and friends”.

A recipient was recently presented with his quilt made by Bridget R. He deeply appreciated the effort that had gone into it.

Until next week keep your letters, emails and photos coming in.  Tuesdays would be so totally boring without them!
