All spots have now been filled

As we are currently making requests for HMAS Sydney, they have kindly offered AHQ volunteers an opportunity to sail with them for their Family and Friends cruise on Friday 14 February.

They will meet us at the Main Garden Island Gate in Sydney at 0745 to embark on the ship at 0800. The ship will sail out of Sydney Harbour and race-track up and down the coast before coming back alongside at 1400 (2pm) to be off the ship by 1430 (2:30pm).

The only restrictions being that you cannot be pregnant and must have the ability to freely manoeuvre about the ship un-assisted i.e. up and down ladders etc.

You will need to make your own way to the Gangway at Garden Island and your own way home.

They only have space for 10 adult volunteers.

Your acceptance of this amazing offer will need to be in before 4pm on Wednesday 29 January so I can let the ship know the exact numbers.

Please email fr**********@gm***.com to register your interest. The spots will fill up in order of receiving your emails! We will send you a confirmation which will include two forms that will need to be filled out.

Information about HMAS Sydney

Commissioned on 18 May 2020, HMAS Sydney (V) is the last of three ships of the Hobart Class guided missile destroyers (DDG).

HMAS Sydney provides air defence for accompanying ships, land forces and infrastructure in coastal areas, and for self-protection against missiles and aircraft. They have a state-of-the-art phased array radar and SM-2 missiles which provides an advanced air defence system capable of engaging enemy aircraft and missiles at ranges in excess of 150km.

HMAS Sydney normally carries a Seahawk helicopter for surveillance and response to support key warfare areas when deployed. The surface warfare function includes long-range anti-ship missiles and a naval gun capable of firing extended range munitions in support of land forces.

HMAS Sydney also conducts undersea warfare and is equipped with modern sonar systems, decoys, surface-launched torpedoes and an array of effective close-in defensive weapons.
