Presentation by Heather B and Sue Ellen S

Recently, we had the honour and pleasure of presenting a quilt GH, so off we went on an excursion to the other side of the City. We also met GH’s lovely wife P, and also new to the family on that very morning, was the delightful addition of Cody, a cute little fluffy Maltese shitzu, who seemed to have fitted right in to the family straight away. I think that Cody got the jackpot household here after his previous owner was unable to continue to care for him.

Over afternoon tea we spent a delightful couple of hours with G & P. G told us about his wonderful career and his studies at the Royal School of Engineering in the United Kingdom. He served in the British Army of the Rhine. These aspects of his service are reflected in his quilt. G served in the Australian Army most recently based at Gallipoli Barracks, Enoggera.

In G’s words….. “I have the best quilt”. He could not have been happier! So thank you Bridget R and Joan B!

Extra Note: a lovely Thank you Letter from G was published in the Grati-Blog on 22nd July. This will again reinforce to volunteers how much their quilts are appreciated.

Good Evening Christine C,

I’m the very lucky owner of the amazing quilt you made for me, you have done such a great job on the quilt its turned better then I could imagine it looking.

A little bit about me, I’ve service in the Royal Australia Navy for nearly 24 yrs and have been luckily enough to service nearly 20yrs in sunny Cairns in far north Queensland. I’m currently posted onto a Patrol Boat in which we patrol the northern waters of Australia for illegal fishing boats.

I originally grew up in the South-Western Suburbs of Sydney near Campbelltown. I have two daughters who are 16 & 14 both born and breed in Cairns, after a families day on my boat last year my youngest daughter loved the experience so much that she is now wanting to follow in my foot-steps and also join the Navy.

Once again Christine thanks very much for my amazing quilt which I proudly show off in my rack/bed onboard the boat.

Attached is a picture of the quilt on my rack.

Very many thanks

Hi Bridget R,

Thank you so much for the lovely laundry bag. I went with Dinosaurs because my 4 year old son is obsessed with them. And he will love that Mummy has dino’s for him when I go to sea.

Thank you again for the work you do, it is amazing.

Kind Regards,

Dear Beverley ,

Thank you so much for the incredible quilt. I absolutely love it! The craftmanship is stunning, and i can tryly see the time, care and love that went into every stitch. The office was wrapped to receive it with me, I feel very grateful to have received something so special and meaningful, and I cannot wait to take it with me on our next adventure!

I am currenlty serving as a photographer in the Royal Australian Air Force, now in my forth year of service. Both of my paretns were in the RAAF as well, with a combined service of 50 years between them.  Before them, my nan and granddad served in the RAF in England, so you could say the love of service runs deep in our family as well!

It meant a lot to read about your life and your family’s service history. What a remarkable legacy, from your husbands 30 years in the RAN, your son’s long career in the RAAF and you father’s service in WWII.  I especially loved hearing about your travels and adventures with your husband, and the way you embraced life so fully together.  You have lived a life rich in expericence, love and purpose, it is truly inspiring and I appreciate you sharing it with us.

Thank you again for your generosity and for sharing a part of yourself with me through you letter and your beautiful quilt.  I will treasure it always.

With sincere appreciation

Good evening,

Just wanted to say thank you for my new laundry bag sewn by Cheryl F. I received the blue/ grey flower print one and absolutely love it.

It’s the small little things like this that make my room feel homey.

Thank you again I really appreciate it,

 Dear Bev L,

Thank you so much for your handiwork – it is amazing! I have the quilt displayed in my room and it makes me smile when I get home from work. It is beautiful and I love it. The Rising Sun is excellent.

I recently returned from my leave break and the package was waiting for me in Juba, South Sudan. It was great for my morale after 30 hours in transit and three flights!

Everything is vibrant and colourful in Africa. My deployment is for 12 months and I’ll be back in time for Christmas. My family are excited. I have two children: a daughter, 13 and a son, 11. They are growing fast!

I hope everything is going well in the Canberra region. I’ve heard there have been some very cold evenings. I hope you are cosy and warm.

The picture of the Austin Atlantics made me smile! You sound like real adventurers. I hope that you are planning your next fun trip.

It was lovely to hear about your children and your military connections. The WW2 veterans are amazing. Bless them all.

AHQ is a great organisation and it must be fun to be creative and connect with others. Thank you for supporting us – it means so much.

All the very best to you and your loved ones.

Dearest Colleen S,

Thank you very much for the beautiful quilt you have made. It is so wonderful and I love it.

Our postal system has finally come together in the last couple of months, and we have just received the quilts this week.

I think it’s beautiful how you have combined the Milky Way from the traditional space sense and from Indigenous art.

The laundry bags are very useful as we have lots of washing to do – with our uniforms and gym attire.

I loved reading about you Colleen, especially the part about you being a grandmother. You have a fantastic life story, and have done a lot for our community. It is inspirational, and you are a great person.

Stay healthy and wonderful. Thank you again for all that you do.

Morning Bev L,

I hope this message finds you well. I was the lucky recipient of your quilt. I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the stunning quilt you made me and the work Aussie Hero Quilts team do. Your skill and craftsmanship truly is amazing and I feel incredibly honoured to have received such a thoughtful gift.

It was wonderful to read about your life and hear all about your family. It sounds like you’ve been creating some beautiful memories together travelling the world and within Australia. It all sounds incredible. Your husband did an amazing job restoring the Austin Atlantic. He must have a strong passion for cars.  You both must be extremely proud of your children and everything they have accomplished in life.

A little bit about myself. I joined the Army in 2004 and started my career as an Electronic Warfare operator before I transferred over to Psychology Corps in 2009. I’m married and I have two lovely daughters who are turning 17 and 13 this year. My husband is also Army and is kept very busy. He has done 3 deployments (twice to Afghanistan and once to Iraq). We always cherish the time when we are all together as it’s a very busy time of year at the moment. My eldest daughter has just put in her application to join the Army once she finishes Year 12. She has started the process for aptitude testing and we will see how it all goes. It’s scary to see how quickly they grow up but I really can’t wait to watch what they both accomplish in life.

Thank you once again for your kindness and generosity.

Kind regards,

Dear Joan H,

I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks for the beautiful laundry bag you made. Your craftsmanship is truly impressive, and I appreciate the time and effort you put into creating such a thoughtful gift.

It’s wonderful to connect with someone who shares a similar background, especially knowing that both of our fathers served in the military. It speaks volumes about the values and strength that have been instilled in us.

I also find it fascinating to hear about your husband’s passion for hot rod shows and model trains. It must be a lot of fun to see his enthusiasm for those hobbies! And your dedication to quilting and embroidery is inspiring.

I admire your creativity and the joy you find in your crafts.

Thank you once again for your kindness. We will be heading off next week for our deployment so your generosity is very appreciated.

Warm regards,

Good Morning Bridget R,

Just emailing you to let you know the bag has arrived and thank you so much for it, I absolutely love it even my colleagues who aren’t Knights supporters could appreciate how great it is. It’s definitely going to make my life on ships easier considering the laundry bag I was using was my original from recruit school just over 10 years ago and had definitely seen better days.

Thank you again and enjoy that much deserved retired life with your husband.

Regards,
